Product Placement in Songs

"Apple Bottom Jeans, boots with the fur"
"Me not working hard? Yeah, right, picture that with a Kodak Or better yet, go to Times Square Take a picture of me with a Kodak"

In my consumer behavior class I got to read an article titled "Singing Songs of [Your Brand Here!]".
What is the article about? It is about Adam Kluger, a 24-year-old man with a special eye for smart business ideas. He is the founder and CEO of the Kluger Agency, an agency that arranges product placements in music videos and on musical recordings.
How did he do that? Kluger talked to different companies and told them they could put their brand names in songs while telling various record label companies that they would get money to do so.
Why is it smart? By pairing a brand with a famous artist, every fan gets exposed to that brand while singing the song. Kluger has also been focusing on Top 40 artists, which tend to ones who are played on repeat and that the Generation Y sings over and over. It is one of the most subtle ways to convince consumers (unless they are marketing majors! :p)

Now the question is the following: Are customers more inclined to buy a certain brand if they remember singing about it or do they consider it just part of a song's lyrics that they don't even pay attention to?
